While sales in the 100+ HP 2WD tractor segment show signs of strength, overall U.S. tractor sales continue to remain below year-ago levels and are hovering just above the five-year sales average, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) Flash report.

Sales in the larger-HP 2WD segment were up 11 percent for August, AEM reports, compared to August 2021, and are 12 percent over 2021s pace year to date. The other 2WD segments remain soft, off 16 percent in the under-40 HP segment and down more than 7 percent in the 40HP to under 100HP segment compared to August 2021. Year-to-date, these segments are off 17.6 percent and 12.6 percent, respectively, AEM says.

Four-wheel-drive tractor sales are also slowing, down 11.4 percent compared to August 2021 and down 14.5 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

AEM also notes total farm tractor sales were down 11.7 percent compared to August 2021 and are down 14.5 percent compared to the same period a year ago.
