U.S. tractor sales end year strong

December continued a strong showing for U.S. tractor sales, according to the latest Flash Report from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

Total 2WD farm tractor sales were up nearly 35 percent over December of 2019, with a strong showing in all HP sectors. Sales of 4WD tractors saw a slight decline of 3.7 percent, and combine sales were down nearly 2 percent compared to December of 2019.

Total 2WD tractor sales remained robust for the year, up nearly 18 percent over 2019 sales. Leading the sector was the under-40 HP market, up 21 percent over 2019. Sales in the 40 to under 100HP segment ended the year up nearly 14 percent, and sales in the 100HP+ segment was up over 3 percent. 4WD tractor sales ended the year up 3.7 percent, and combine sales showed a 5.5 percent increase over last years numbers.

After starting the year on-pace with the five-year sales average, unit sales climbed in April and remained above 2019 and five-year average numbers for the year.
